The day after Thanksgiving (in the U.S.), is referred to as Black Friday. The term Black Friday comes from the shift of profitability during the holiday season; therefore, going from Red (unprofitable) to Black (profitable). This day is considered a major shopping day in the U.S.; the day many people begin their Christmas shopping.
Last year, November 2006, I got sucked in by a few retailers ads. I ended up getting up very early to wait in a very long line to find out that the store only had a few of the items on the shelf. I guess "while supplies last" is how they get a away with it.

Effective Marketing can and SHOULD include Blogs!
Blogs (and RSS feeds) on your presonal or business Web sites can be an effective marketing tool. If you haven't placed a blog on your site -- you should do it now! This is one addition to your site you should have. Start a blog on the subject of your site or something complimentary to it. It will allow for visitor interaction and will give your site a boost in the ratings. Below is link to information on creating Blogs (and RSS feeds). Classmates this probably won't be anything new to you, but it never hurts to check things out.

This week's readings...
Both articles discuss Web 2.o. I found these trends noted in the readings to be very interesting.
- Users produce and share content
- Users organize content
- Users access site content and functions will beyond the borders of the site's "pages"
- Users are pursuing social goals, not just work goals
This powerpoint reveals future statistics that clearly represent a shift in how we'll need to market and network in the future.

Today, October 22, 2007, marks the 18th aniversary of the disappearance of Jacob Wetterling. The Wetterling foundation is asking in honor of Jacob to leave a porch light on this evening or light a candle. What this signifies is to "help light their way home." This is a one way for families to show their support for Jacob and all missing children. Please help support this cause.....THANKS!!!

Wow, it's been a busy week already an it's only TUESDAY. Today I was invited to a wonderful Metropolitan State scholarship luncheon at the Neighborhood House on the westside of St. Paul. This was the first time in this building and it has a lot to offer. I've worked for Metropolitan State for almost 20 years and never new how many scholarships are awarded annually and what a great service this is to students whose dreams are to go to college. The scholarship recipient that sat at our table was a wonderful women and as it turned out our sons play in the same football league. What a small world! If you know of anyone that could benefit from a scholarship you should direct them to Metropolitan State's University Advancement Division.
