What is Black Friday?

The day after Thanksgiving (in the U.S.), is referred to as Black Friday. The term Black Friday comes from the shift of profitability during the holiday season; therefore, going from Red (unprofitable) to Black (profitable). This day is considered a major shopping day in the U.S.; the day many people begin their Christmas shopping.

Last year, November 2006, I got sucked in by a few retailers ads. I ended up getting up very early to wait in a very long line to find out that the store only had a few of the items on the shelf. I guess "while supplies last" is how they get a away with it.

This week's readings...

Both articles discuss Web 2.o. I found these trends noted in the readings to be very interesting.

  • Users produce and share content
  • Users organize content
  • Users access site content and functions will beyond the borders of the site's "pages"
  • Users are pursuing social goals, not just work goals

This powerpoint reveals future statistics that clearly represent a shift in how we'll need to market and network in the future.
